Diana
Huntington - President
Diana brings to CVC her abilities and experience
in coalition building and facilitation, animal advocacy, education,
research and grant writing, and working with families challenged
by poverty. Diana holds a BA degree in English Literature and Creative
Writing, MA in Teaching, and MALS (Library and Informational Sciences).
She has worked as a school and public librarian in the Eugene and Chicago areas.
She founded and facilitated the Animal Welfare Network of Lane County,
and the Overpopulation Crisis Coalition, which was formed to bring
non-profit and government animal groups together to create dialogue
and networking to address the needs of animals and their caregivers
in Lane County. She is a volunteer for Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, Pro-Bone-O, and serves
on the Stray Cat Alliance Board. Before
moving to Eugene she was a Director for Concerned Citizens for Ethical
Research and a volunteer for Evanston Animal Shelter in the Chicago
Area. Diana lives in rural Lane County with her family, which includes
cats, two big fluffy dogs and all the wild beings that share her
land.
Janetta
Overholser - Vice President
Janetta brings to CVC her amazing ability to organize and work throughout
the community to advocate for animals and to promote the need for
spay /neuter programs. Janetta regularly attends the Humane Society
of the United States Animal Care Expo and is constantly seeking
information about programs for animals that can be used as models
for Lane County. Janetta is an original founder and currently serves
as President of the Humane Society of Cottage Grove, which raises
funds to provide financial assistance to low income families for
spay / neuter procedures, and transports homeless animals to other
shelters for adoption. She participates in Overpopulation Crisis Coalition, served on the Lane
County Animal Regulation Authority Task Force, and consistently
gives public comment at city and county government meetings and
contributes editorials and radio interviews relating to animal issues
and codes. Janetta resides in Cottage Grove where over the years
her home has been a respite for hundreds of cats and kittens while
waiting for room at Greenhill Humane Society where they can find
their ''forever'' home.
Carolyn
(Lyn) Gilman-Garrick - Board Secretary
Lyn brings to CVC her skills in veterinary practice management,
legal expertise, and working with people with various socioeconomic
backgrounds. Lyn holds a BS in Biology, Post Baccalaureate in Wildlife
Biology, and is a graduate of the Lewis and Clark, Northwestern
School of Law. Last year she completed the LCC Non-profit Management
Series. She is one of the founding directors and administrators
of Pro-Bone-O, a non-profit that provides veterinary clinics to
pets of people who are homeless and is a Hospice Volunteer with
Cascade Health Solutions. Her work experience includes nine years
as an Attorney for Juvenile Rights Project and seven years as Manger
of Pacifica Veterinary Services / The Healthy Pet. She lives in
Eugene with her husband Paul and her two cats and two dogs that
are often seen on their regular walks around town.
Jackie Rice - Treasurer
Jackie brings to CVC her business management experience, including marketing research, business planning, strategic planning and human development, along with her life-long passion for animals, advanced handy-person skills and belief in the incredible power of the human and animal spirits. She serves at PeaceHealth Oregon Region as Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development for Sacred Heart Medical Center. Jackie is a member of Kiwanis and volunteers at Pro Bone O. She grew up locally and graduated from Oregon State with a BS in Microbiology and a BS in Medical Technology, followed by an MBA from the University of Oregon. Jackie lives with her husband, four horses, two dogs and one cat on a few acres outside of Eugene. All but the husband and one horse are rescue cases! When she’s not mucking out stalls, she enjoys riding her horses, traveling and connecting with family and friends.
Catherine
E. Bill
Cathy brings
to CVC her experiences and education in personnel training and management,
working and volunteering with people with
developmental disabilities, and volunteering and organizing events
and programs for area animal advocacy groups.
Cathy holds a BA from Huron College and has additional training
in personnel management, communications and customer service. She
has twelve years experience as a Training and Developmental Manager
for Bi-Mart, started and directed programs for Big Sisters, Big
Brothers, YWCA in Wisconsin and South Dakota and Womanspace in Eugene.
She has served on boards for Security First Childcare Center and
Stray Cat Alliance (SCA). Her animal advocacy includes volunteering
and coordinating events for Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon,
SCA, Neutermobile, Pro-Bone-O, and Florence Area Humane Society. She lives in Eugene with
her foster daughter Jennifer and several cats lucky to have found
her safe and loving home.
Leanne
Eggert, DVM
Leanne brings to CVC her experience and expertise in veterinary
medicine and surgery, feral cat overpopulation problems /solutions,
and an understanding of the needs of under-served animal populations
in Lane County. Leanne holds a BS in Biochemistry from Lewis and
Clark College and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oregon
State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a staff
veterinarian at Veneta Veterinary Hospital. She has served on the
Board of Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO), a non-profit mobile surgical
facility that travels statewide to spay / neuter feral cats. While
a veterinary student in Pullman, Washington, she started the non-profit
Feral Cat Solutions - a trap/neuter/return program. She volunteers
her medical and surgical services to Heartland Humane Society in
Corvallis, Pro-Bone-O, FCCO, and has volunteered as a spotter for
disabled riders with Palouse Area Therapeutic Horsemanship. Leanne
shares a home in Veneta with her husband, Jon, two dogs, three cats
and occasional foster kittens. She is very excited about the recent
addition to her family, a new (human) baby.
Beth Goodman
Beth brings to CVC her experience in planning, public policy, and computers. Beth holds Masters degrees in Community and Regional Planning and Public Administration, as well as a certificate in Not-for-Profit Management from the University of Oregon. She currently works at ECONorthwest as a planner and policy analyst, specializing on Oregon land use planning. Before earning her masters degrees, Beth worked in informational technology doing technical support, systems administration, and network administration for more than eight years. She lives in Eugene with her husband Jerry and their two dogs and five cats.
Michelle Kenna, DVM
Originally form Southern California, Michelle earned a bachelors degree in Psychology from Cal State, Los Angeles. It was her love of animals that brought her back to school for a BS in Animal Science from Cal Poly, Pomona. From there, it was on to Ross University and Texas A&M for her DVM. She works as a small animal veterinarian in Cottage Grove where she lives with her husband, Sean, and two dogs, Piper and Gracie. She enjoys spending long weekends with her husband and dogs.
Sean Kenna
Sean graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a BA in Science Management with an emphasis on Biotechnology in 2000. Following a stint as a political consultant during the 2000 elections, he went to work for Amphastar Pharmaceuticals in new business development and later in clinical research. Following his marriage to Michelle, he left for St. Kitts, West Indies. While there, he completed his MS in Education from Capella University and taught science at the St. Kitts Montessori Academy. He is a music fanatic and enjoys basketball, track & field and movies.
Sandra K. Smalley, DVM
Dr. Sandra (Sandy) Smalley has a B.A. in anthropology/archeology from the University of Michigan and graduated with honors from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has practiced in Eugene since 1979, and has owned Edgewood Animal Clinic since 1994. Dr. Smalley is active in the Lane County Veterinary Medical Association and does volunteer work with the Feral Cat Coalition and Pro Bone O. She is one of eight elected regional directors of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association.When not at work, Dr. Smalley enjoys gardening, golf and walks with her two Labrador Retrievers. She has four cats, who of course run the household. Dr. Smalley is a world traveler, and is always looking forward to the next adventure.
